Signs of a Good English Teacher

Most of the time a child that goes for Primary School English tuition do not have their first language in English, therefore, it is necessary for them to fully understand the language and help them learn better and have a good teacher who can help achieve this.

These are 10 tips that show how a good teacher can make learning English better for your child.

1.Know the student and their background can help the teacher improve the teaching material for the child.

2.Be aware of the child’s social and emotional needs; it is not only important to know the student but also know the students family if they have a rough upbringing or other siblings that they need to care for it makes it difficult for the child to learn or do homework

3.Understand whether English will be the first or second language for the child; although this does not make a difference to teachers and is not exactly in their job description but knowing this will make it easier for the teacher to concentrate on the child that requires it more than others.

4.Teachers should follow SWRL. The teach should make sure that the child Speaks, Writes, Reads, and listens to the language every day as this daily practice can help in improving their language skills.

5.Understand the assessment methods of English; knowing how and when the child will be assessed on their language skills can help the teacher groom them for these assessments and make sure that they do well.

6.It is important for the teacher to know their own proficiency in the language which will help them improve in areas that need improvement.

7.A good teacher should know the content that they are about to teach to the child as the better understanding that they have of the language the better they will be at teacher their students and helping them improve their skills.

8.A good teacher will always make the classroom more interactive and interesting for the child.

9.Teachers should think of better strategies and methods of teaching this language to the child. Not all children are equally proficient with this language hence it is better for the teacher to know each child’s skills and then use a strategy that would be most beneficial for them.

10.Creating an open environment in which the child’s achievements are celebrated helps give encouragement to the child as well as others in the class.
